Chicory Powder for Coffee: How Much to Add
How much chicory powder to add to coffee at 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50%, and whether to mix it yourself or buy it pre-blended.

Searches for "chicory powder" and "chicory powder for coffee" usually mean one of two things: where to buy it, and how much to put in coffee. Here is a practical answer to both.
How Much Chicory Powder to Add
By weight, to your ground coffee:
| Chicory share | Ratio | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| 10% | 90:10 | A touch of body and mellowness |
| 20% | 80:20 | The classic South Indian balance |
| 30% | 70:30 | Heavier, mellow, less bitter |
| 40% | 60:40 | Strong, dark, thick decoction |
| 50% | 50:50 | Very dark and earthy |
If you are new to chicory, start at 20% and move up.
Mix Yourself or Buy It Blended?
Mixing powders at home works, but it takes a scale and a bit of patience. Different grind sizes also separate in the bag over time, so the blend is uneven. A pre-blended powder, ground together to the same fineness, is easier and gives the same cup every time.
Gray Cup sells both. Plain chicory powder is ₹350 per kg (500g and 1kg packs), for people who want to set their own ratio. If you would rather not measure, the 60% Arabica, 40% chicory Value Blend is the most chicory-forward ready-made option for that dark, thick cup.

Brewing Tips
Chicory extracts quickly and thickens the liquid, so use a little less powder than you would for straight coffee. See the chicory decoction guide for quantities by ratio.
