Best Coffee for AeroPress
The AeroPress is forgiving and fast, and works with almost any roast. Here's how to get the most from it and the best coffees to use.

The AeroPress is a small plastic plunger that brews with a mix of immersion and gentle pressure, through a paper (or metal) filter. It's fast, hard to mess up, easy to clean, and it makes a clean, low-bitterness cup somewhere between filter coffee and a weak espresso. It works with almost any roast, which is part of why it's so popular.
What Works in an AeroPress
- Any roast - light for a bright, tea-like cup; medium-dark for a fuller, chocolatey one.
- Medium-fine grind - finer than pour over, coarser than espresso.
- 1:15 to 1:16 ratio, or brew a small concentrate and dilute.
- Water at 80-92 C - the AeroPress is forgiving, and cooler water suits lighter roasts.
