Best Coffee for People Who Don't Like Bitter Coffee
Bitterness usually comes from Robusta, dark roasts and over-extraction - not coffee itself. Here are the least bitter coffees and how to brew them.

Coffee isn't inherently bitter. Most of the bitterness people dislike comes from three things: too much Robusta, a dark or burnt roast, and over-extraction during brewing. Fix those and coffee tastes sweet, nutty and smooth - even black.
Where Bitterness Comes From
- Robusta. Roughly twice as bitter as Arabica. Cheap blends use a lot of it.
- Dark roast. Roasting past a point adds scorched, ashy bitterness.
- Over-extraction. Water too hot, grind too fine, brew too long, or stale beans.

Brew to Reduce Bitterness
- Grind coarser - the most common fix.
- Cooler water - 88-92 C, never boiling.
- Shorter brew - stop a pour over at 3 minutes, a press at 4.
- Less coffee if it's too strong (strength reads as bitterness).
- Fresh beans - stale coffee always tastes harsher.
- Filtered water - hard or chlorinated water roughens the cup.
