How to Store Filter Coffee Powder So It Stays Fresh
Keep filter coffee powder airtight, cool, dark and dry. How long it lasts, what to do about chicory and moisture, and which pack size to buy.

Filter coffee powder goes stale faster than whole beans, because grinding exposes far more surface to air. A few simple habits keep it tasting fresh until the pack is finished.
Keep it airtight
Oxygen is the main enemy. Pour the powder into an airtight steel or glass container with a tight lid, or roll the pack down and seal it with a clip. Do not leave the pack open on the shelf.
Keep it cool, dark and dry
- A cupboard, not the counter beside the stove.
- Away from steam from the kettle or pressure cooker.
- Never leave a wet spoon in the container. Moisture makes the powder clump and turns it musty.
How long it lasts
Ground coffee tastes best within 1 to 2 weeks and is noticeably flat after 3 to 4 weeks.
Buy the size you will finish
A pack you finish in a month tastes better than a kilo you finish in four. We roast after you order, so what arrives is fresh. Choose 250g if you drink one or two cups a day, and 500g for a family.
What about the fridge or freezer?
The fridge adds moisture and odours, so skip it. A freezer works only if you split the pack into small airtight portions and let each one come to room temperature before opening. For most homes, buying smaller is easier.
