Best Arabica Coffee in India

Indian Arabica is grown at altitude under shade, mostly in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Odisha and the Northeast, and mostly washed or honey-processed. The result is a clean, aromatic, medium-bodied cup with more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta - the bean to choose for black coffee, pour over and French press.

What to Look For

  • Single origin or single estate if you want to taste where it's from.
  • Washed process for clarity, honey/natural for more sweetness and body.
  • Medium roast to keep the origin character.
  • A roast date on the bag - Arabica's aromatics fade fast.

The Picks

Karadykan Estate Coffee

Shade-grown Arabica with chocolate, citrus and orange. Balanced and versatile - the easy default.

Karadykan Estate Coffee

Biccode Estate Coffee

Washed Arabica (SLN 795), lemon zest, cacao and caramel. Bright without being sharp.

Biccode Estate Coffee

Attikan Estate Washed Coffee

A clean, balanced washed Arabica from the Biligiris - a great introduction to estate coffee.

Attikan Washed Coffee

Koraput, Odisha Washed Coffee

Bright and well-defined from the hills of Odisha, with very low bitterness.

Halflong Assam Coffee

A gentle single-origin Arabica from the North Cachar Hills - soft, mild, easy to drink black.

Halflong Assam Coffee

Filter Coffee (Pure Arabica)

If you want your South Indian filter coffee with no Robusta - the cleanest, most fragrant decoction.

Brewing Arabica

Arabica rewards care: filtered water at 90-94 C, a fresh medium grind, a 1:16 ratio, and a 3-4 minute brew. Over-hot water or too-fine a grind buries the delicate notes you paid for.
